Shillong was capital for composite Assam during the British regime and later till a separate State of Meghalaya was formed.
David Scott, the British civil servant of the East India Company, was the Agent of the Governor-General North East Frontier.
During the First Anglo-Burmese War the British authorities felt the need for a road to connect Sylhet and Assam. The route was to traverse across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills. David Scott overcame the difficulties his administration faced from the opposition of the Khasi Syiems – their chiefs and people. Impressed by the favourable cool climate of Khasi Hills, they negotiated with the Syiem of Sohra in 1829 for a sanatorium for the British. Thus began the consolidation of British interests in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
A serious uprising by the Khasis against foreign occupation of their land followed. It began early in 1829 and continued till January 1833. Eventually the Khasi confederate chiefs were no match against the military might of the British. David Scott negotiated for the surrender of the leader of the Khasi resistance, Tirot Sing, who was then taken to Dacca (present day Dhaka) for detention. After the resistance of the Khasis a political agent was posted in the hills, with its headquarters at Sohra, also known by the name Cherrapunjee. But the climatic condition and facilities of Sohra did not make the British happy, they then moved out to Shillong, which was then known as "Iewduh". The name "Shillong" was later adopted, as the location of the new town was below the Shillong Peak.

DAY 1: ARRIVE AT GUWAHATI-SHILLONG
- Departure from Chennai Airport.
- we will leave for the capital city of Meghalaya- Shillong, fondly known as the Scotland of the East. On the way to Shillong we will stop at the Umiam Lake, which is located just 15 km before to the capital city of Meghalaya
- then adjoining the Nehru Park will be perfect place for them to spend few thrilling hrs enjoying a motorboat rides and other activities.
- Later, return to the hotel for overnight stay
DAY 2: SHILLONG-CHERRAPUNJIEE
- Enjoy the hearty morning breakfast at Deluxe hotel.
- leave the hotel for Cherrapunjee which is barely 65 kms from Shillong. It is the wettest destination in the world and on your drive to Cherrapunjee, you will come across roaring waterfalls diving into unfathomable gorges
- visit the famous Nohsngithiang Falls, Nohkalikai fall, Mawsmai Cave
- Later, return to the hotel for overnight stay
Day 03: CHERRAPUNJIEE
- Enjoy the hearty morning breakfast at Deluxe hotel.
- we will go on a guided trek to visit the Double Decker living Routes Bridge, the most brilliant of all the living bridges found in the world. The trek from the resort will take about 05 hrs.
- The picturesque forest all around, pleasant sound of water falls will provide you a different experience with the mesmerizing feeling
- Overnight stay at Deluxe Hotel
Day 04: CHERRAPUNJIEE-MAWLYNNONG-SHILLONG
- Enjoy the hearty morning breakfast at Deluxe hotel.
- Early morning we will visit the cleanest village (Mawlynnong ) in India which is nearly 80 kms from Cherrapunjee
- just close to the scenic villages; there are interesting sights like the living roots bridge and a beautiful sight boulder balancing on another rock.
- Later in the afternoon we will drive to Shillong
- return to the hotel for overnight stay
Day 05: SHILLONG
- Enjoy the hearty morning breakfast at Deluxe hotel.
- enjoy local sightseeing tour of Shillong ‘Scotland of the East’. We will be visiting Cathedral Church, Lady Hydari Park, the Orchidarium, Elephant Falls 7 the Golf course
- we will drive to the shilling peak to enjoy a splendid view of Shillong
- Later, return to the hotel for overnight stay
DAY 6: DEPARTURE FROM SHILLONG
- As per the shillong Package, your final day will begin with a breakfast. Post breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for journey back home.
